Casino plan faces further delaysA plan opposed by the city council leader to create a new casino in Nottingham has been put on hold. The Glasshouse on Huntingdon Street is to house students. Plans to have a bingo hall on the first floor were replaced with the casino scheme. These have met with just one objector - the local ward councillor and city leader Jon Collins. The council's executive board has now decided to defer a decision on the plans until a future meeting. Neither police nor planning officers raised any objections to the casino, but Mr Collins said he feared increased late night noise. Story from BBC NEWS: Island casino idea to be debatedA public consultation is being held into plans for a casino on Jersey. The States' Economic Development Department has announced it will carry out a full consultation within the next few months. A proposal for a casino was defeated in the States last year, after worries it would increase problem gambling. Assistant Economic Development Minister Alan MacLean said the debate had been mishandled and there are plans for a commission to regulate casinos. Supporters say a casino would bring extra tourists to the island and generate more income for the States. But others - including clergy on Jersey - say it will increase problem gambling. The States rejected a previous casino proposal in 2003. Last year, politicians agreed to allow online bingo and setting up a gambling commission. Story from BBC NEWS:
